Excerpts

In the past 2 years, a new class of infant physiologic monitors marketed to parents for use in the home has emerged. Smartphone applications (apps) integrated with sensors built into socks, onesies, buttons, leg bands, and diaper clips have the capability to display infants’ respirations, pulse rate, and blood oxygen saturation, and to generate alarms for apnea, tachycardia, bradycardia, and desaturation (Table). Despite the lack of publicly available evidence supporting the safety, accuracy, effectiveness, or role of these monitors in the care of well infants, sales of these products are brisk and the market is expanding....

There are no medical indications for monitoring healthy infants at home ....

Cell Phone Radiation Lawsuits

Many consumer advocacy groups are calling for much stronger warnings about the risk of brain tumors and other injuries from cell phone radiation, indicating that manufacturers must do more to educate consumers and ensure that they are aware of the risk.

Cell Phone Radiation Lawsuits
aboutlawsuits.com, Updated: February 2017

Radio frequency energy from cell phones could be linked to an increased risk of cancer, studies have shown. Holding or using the phones too close to the body has been linked to a potential risk of brain tumors, breast cancer and infertility.

STATUS OF CELL PHONE CANCER LAWSUITS: Product liability lawyers are continuing to review and evaluate whether financial compensation may be available through cell phone lawsuits on behalf of individuals diagnosed with brain cancer or other injuries that may be associated with significant use of mobile phones in close proximity to the body.

OVERVIEW: Cell phones are used by more than 5 billion people worldwide and there has been long debate and concerns about the potential radiation side effects from cell phones.

Many Americans do not trust modern institutions to protect their personal data – even as they frequently neglect cybersecurity best practices in their own personal lives

Cyberattacks and data breaches are facts of life for government agencies, businesses and individuals alike in today’s digitized and networked world. Just a few of the most high-profile breaches in 2016 alone include the hacking and subsequent release of emails from members of the Democratic National Committee; the release of testing records of dozens of athletes conducted by the World Anti-Doping Agency; and the announcement by Yahoo that hackers had accessed the private information associated with roughly 1 billion email accounts. Finally, in late 2016 and early 2017 U.S. intelligence agencies (the FBI, CIA and Department of Homeland Security) both issued statements and testified before Congress that the Russian government was involved in the hack of the DNC with the aim of influencing the 2016 presidential election.

Petition to Premier Christy Clark, BC Utilities Commission garners over 200 names

A group of Anmore residents is petitioning Premier Christy Clark and the BC Utilities Commission to make BC Hydro put its new transmission line underground because of safety concerns.

Urs Ribary said the utility is ignoring residents' concerns and proceeding with plans to install a 230 kilovolt (kV) transmission line that will put families at risk of high exposure to electro-magnetic fields (EMF).

"Somebody has to stand up and put on the brakes," Ribary said. "We need a safer solution."

Although the existing line has cut through people's yards along a right of way for several decades, people now are more aware of the health risks of EMF, Ribary told The Tri-City News.

But spokesperson Judy Dobrowolski said the additional line will be consolidated with an existing line, reducing the number of structures and lowering the current magnetic field levels, while existing levels are already within World Health Organization standards.

But Ribary and his group say BC Hydro's data on EMF exposure is incomplete and ignores the long-term effects of regular exposure. Putting the line underground would avoid health risks to about 140 homes and up to 700 people, he said, but BC Hydro has not entertained the idea because of the cost.

South Africa: Cellphone Tower Threat to Residents

MTN SA media communications officer, Bridget Bhengu said, “This relates to the eThekwini pole project and all enquiries relating to it should be referred to eThekwini Municipality.”

Constant headaches, sleep deprivation and prolonged body pains are just a few of the ailments that Merebank residents have been complaining about after a cell tower was installed at the corner of Dubrigarth and Dinapur Road, last year.

Residents also claim they were not informed of the installation of the cell tower and were instead told that surveillance cameras were being installed. Now months later, the community is up in arms as they fear the radiation from the tower is resulting in the many illnesses and discomforts they are suffering with.

For years, scientists have been warning that pollution from electro- magnetic frequencies emitted by cell phones and WiFi “likely cause” brain and heart cancers in test animals, but no one is listening. Even worse, as technology spreads around the world, no one is working on ways to help minimize exposure to these types of toxic EMF waves.

Far-sighted health advocates have warned about the dangers of electromagnetic frequency (EMF) pollution, broadly including power lines, cellular phone towers, and cellular and cordless telephones, for a long time. New technologies such as Wi-Fi and “smart meters” bring EMF closer to us—in our homes, workplaces, and many public spaces. They also make communication towers more prolific, which intensifies the problem.

A recent study on cellular telephone dangers and proposed action by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) went virtually under the radar.

Those seat-back screens that have long been part of in-flight entertainment systems are preparing to depart from many airplanes, experts say, and will gradually be replaced by content streamed to passengers’ electronic devices through improved wireless service.

But as with a delayed flight, don’t expect the changes to take off in a hurry.

For airlines, the switch would save money and cater to customers’ changing viewing habits, which rely increasingly on tablets and smartphones, William Hoppe, the leader of travel, logistics and hospitality at Intelenet Global Services, said in an email.

Researchers suggest disorder should be considered a neurological condition and not simply a behavioural one

People with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder have distinct differences in their brain structure, a new study finds, suggesting the disorder should be considered a neurological condition and not simply a behavioural problem.

The research — published Wednesday in Lancet Psychiatry — was described by its authors as the largest-ever review of ADHD patient brain scans.

The scientists evaluated MRI scans and other data from more than 3,200 people, comparing 1,713 patients who had been diagnosed with ADHD to a control group. The patients ranged in age from four to 63.

I'll Never Bring My Phone on an International Flight Again. Neither Should You.

How many potentially incriminating things do you have lying around your home? If you’re like most people, the answer is probably zero. And yet police would need to go before a judge and establish probable cause before they could get a warrant to search your home. What we’re seeing now is that anyone can be grabbed on their way through customs and forced to hand over the full contents of their digital life.

A few months ago I wrote about how you can encrypt your entire life in less than an hour. Well, all the security in the world can’t save you if someone has physical possession of your phone or laptop, and can intimidate you into giving up your password.

And a few weeks ago, that’s precisely what happened to a US citizen returning home from abroad.

On January 30th, Sidd Bikkannavar, a US-born scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory flew back to Houston, Texas from Santiago, Chile.

On his way through through the airport, Customs and Border Patrol agents pulled him aside. They searched him, then detained him in a room with a bunch of other people sleeping in cots. They eventually returned and said they’d release him if he told them the password to unlock his phone.

Wi-Fi calls on planes OK? Answer is loud and clear: No
by Bart Jansen , USA TODAY,
12 February 2017

WASHINGTON — The Transportation Departmenthas received more than 7,000 comments, often punctuated with capital letters and exclamation points, that almost universally urge a ban against Wi-Fi calls on planes.

The comments thundered against the prospect of voice calls that are possible through Internet services such as Skype that aren’t now governed by federal regulations, in contrast to cellular calls.

The outpouring is reminiscent of 2013, after the Federal Communications Commission considered dropping a 1991 ban against cell calls on airline flights, but abandoned the proposal amid public outrage. The ban stemmed from a concern about jamming ground-based relay stations for calls; it doesn’t cover Wi-Fi calls.

For lack of regulations governing Wi-Fi calls, then-Transportation secretary Anthony Foxx proposed requiring airlines to notify passengers if calls are allowed on flights. He also invited comments from travelers and the industry about whether the department should ban calls entirely.

An east-end middle school is making the call to ban cellphones from all of its classrooms and hallways after parents and teachers reported distractions were at an all-time high.

Earl Grey Senior Public School principal Bill Vatzolas sent a note home to parents this week, notifying them of the decision.

“This policy change is the result of conversations with our staff, parents and students as we collectively look to minimize distractions in the classroom and reduce the inappropriate uses of the devices during the school day,” Vatzolas wrote in the letter home.

The devices are allowed during the lunch hour but accessing social media, texting, or taking or viewing videos is prohibited.

This towering 82ft high mobile phone mast has finally been removed - after a 17-year battle by residents.

Shooters Hill Association – a group of neighbours in Meir – has spent thousands of pounds, sent hundreds of letters, visited Westminster and staged peaceful protests to try to get the eyesore dismantled.

The Orange mast was erected in 1993 and the association was set up in 2000 when residents found out the tower had been erected without proper consultation.

Families have always suspected there could be a link between cancer deaths in the area and the phone mast – which could be seen from as far as a mile away.

Critical Condition: Health Experts Sound the Climate Alarm

Critical condition: Health experts sound the climate alarm.
by Peter Dykstra, The Daily Climate, 16 February 2017

Experts paint a dire portrait of climate change’s public health impacts, but leave a little room for hope.

ATLANTA—In a gathering impacted by presidential politics, an all-star cast of public health experts largely stuck to their own bleak script: Climate change is poised to unleash an unprecedented, global public health crisis.

Not even former Vice President Al Gore, who served as the day's emcee, waded into the political swamp. He presented a half-hour, health-themed version of his much-lauded slide show.

While Gore summarized the gobsmacking array of climate impacts—heat stress, water supplies, food security, mental health, respiratory and infectious diseases, allergens, and weather disasters—he left room at the end for some more convenient truths: The world, he said, is more than able to shift to a clean energy economy, reduce CO2 emissions, and blunt the worst impacts of climate change.

Harvard internist Ashish Jha discussed the climate-related spread of pathogens, and provided one of the conference’s few direct political jabs: “Walls,” he said, “will not keep these pathogens out.”

Wearing a fitness tracking device could earn you cash from your health insurance company. At first, this sounds lucrative for the people who participate, and good for the companies, who want healthier insurance customers. But it’s not quite so simple.

Under the program, people who have certain health insurance coverage plans with United Healthcare can elect to wear a Fitbit activity tracker and share their data with the insurance company. The data would be analyzed by Qualcomm Life, a company that processes medical data from wireless sensors for doctors, hospitals and insurance companies. Depending on how active participants are, as measured by the Fitbit, they could earn as much as US$1,500 toward health care services each year.

Mainichi Japan, 16 February 2017

The Japan Pediatric Association and the Japan Medical Association on Feb. 15 unveiled a poster warning against the dangers of the excessive use of smartphones.

The poster will be sent to approximately 170,000 members of the two associations to be put up at clinics nationwide.

The poster poses the question, "What do I sacrifice with time spent on my smartphone?" and responds with the six categories of sleep, academic performance, brain function, physical strength, vision, and communication ability. The effects of smartphone use in these areas are explained using data from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and illustrations.

The world has become economically dependent on the Internet. The ability to connect and share information is essential to the functioning not just of economic markets but also of government itself. As computer technology advances we as a society become ever more dependent on an Internet of things that extend far beyond our home computers and laptops. Everything from automobiles to zoos are web-connected today and those connections multiply exponentially as new connected devices are invented and marketed.

The Internet of things (IoT) is certainly a convenience to us all, but it’s also a pathway to chaos for cyber criminals and enemies of the United States. Eric Lieberman, technology and law reporter for The Daily Caller tells of an unnamed university that was hacked through its light bulbs and vending machines.

You can view the full press conference here:

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Chairman of the World Mercury Project (WMP), announced a $100,000 challenge today aimed at putting an end to including mercury, a neurotoxin that is 100 times more poisonous than lead, in vaccines administered in the U.S and globally.

It’s offered to anybody, including journalists and scientists, who can provide a study showing that it is safe to inject mercury into babies. This will be difficult, as hundreds of studies (that were also present at the press conference in print form) suggest that it isn’t safe at all, and can significantly increase the risk of developing neurodegenerative disorders.

Reykjavik Appeal on Wireless Technology in Schools

Reykjavik Appeal on wireless technology in schools

We, the signers, are concerned about our children's health and development in schools with wireless technology for teaching. A vast amount of scientific studies have shown considerable medical risks with long-term exposure to Radiofrequency Radiation (RFR) from wireless devices and networks well below the recommended reference levels from the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP). We ask the authorities to take their responsibility for our children's future health and wellbeing.

In May 2011 the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) at WHO classified RFR as a Group 2B carcinogen, i.e., ‘possibly’ carcinogenic to humans. Since then more scientific studies on exposure to RFR in humans, animals and biological material have strengthened the association of an increased risk for cancer, especially brain tumors. Several laboratory studies have shown mechanistic effects in carcinogenesis such as oxidative stress, down regulation of mRNA and DNA damage with single strand breaks. The IARC cancer classification includes all sources of RFR. The exposure from mobile phone base stations, WiFi access points, smart phones, laptops and tablets can be long-term, sometimes around the clock, both at home and at school. For children this risk may be accentuated because of a cumulative effect during a long lifetime use. Developing and immature cells can also be more sensitive to exposure to RFR. No safe level of this radiation has been determined by any health agency and therefore we have no safety assurances.

Hell Hole on Earth Discovered at Fukushima

[Our comment, to paraphrase a Facebook friend, while we are talking about what kind of clothing Trump's wife is wearing... something horrific is happening at Fukushima.  It will probably affect our own life, the lives of our children, and the lives of every single person on this planet for the rest of time.]

How come doctors don`t say more about radiation dangers?  Because they are among the primary users of nuclear radiation, using it for all kinds of dangerous tests. A single CT scan of the chest is equal to about 350 standard chest X-rays.

Hell Hole on Earth Discovered at Fukushima

Most people think they have to die to go to hell but that is not true anymore. Today, in the mainstream press, they announced the existence of a hell hole in Japan at the destroyed nuclear power station at Fukushima. We have a hot spot on our planet that has never been imagined before and in the face of it human technology is helpless.

At the levels of radiation now being found a Fukushima, a robot would be able to operate for less than two hours before it was destroyed. And Japan’s National Institute of Radiological Sciences said medical professionals had never even thought about encountering this level of radiation in their work.

The accident is enormous in its medical implications. Through future years, too long to contemplate, we will witness an epidemic of cancer as people inhale the radioactive elements, eat radioactive vegetables, rice and meat, and drink radioactive milk and teas. Year by year, decade through relentless decade, the radiation will build up yet modern medicine does not seem concerned.

Dr Helen Caldicott, explains recent robot photos taken of Fukushima's Daiichi nuclear reactors: radiation levels have not peaked, but have continued to spill toxic waste into the Pacific Ocean — but it's only now the damage has been photographed.

RECENT reporting of a huge radiation measurement at Unit 2 in the Fukushima Daichi reactor complex does not signify that there is a peak in radiation in the reactor building.

All that it indicates is that, for the first time, the Japanese have been able to measure the intense radiation given off by the molten fuel, as each previous attempt has led to failure because the radiation is so intense the robotic parts were functionally destroyed.

Twenty-eight girls and women suffering what they say are side effects from cervical cancer vaccines that were recommended by the government demanded compensation from the state and drugmakers Monday as their trial opened at the Tokyo District Court.

The plaintiffs, ranging in age from 15 to 22, said they have experienced a wide range of health problems, including pain all over their bodies and impaired mobility, after receiving the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines between 2010 and 2013.

Each is demanding ¥15 million [US$131,000] in damages.

You do not have a cell phone, you have a computer in your pocket that can make phone calls; you no longer drive a car, you are driving in a computer whose computer case is shaped like a car and is designed for transportation. The same can be said about thermostats, X-ray machines and yes – security camera systems. We now know these internet-connected devices as the ‘The Internet of Things’ (IoT) and we in IT have a joke about it.

Forty-five years ago President Richard Nixon declared that “the time has come in America when the same kind of concentrated effort that split the atom and took man to the moon should be turned toward conquering cancer.”

Some four decades and more than $120 billion later Republicans have added more money to the National Cancer Institute budget than requested by President Obama to fund another Cancer Moonshot — bringing the total to more than $5 billion this year.

It might be a good idea to ask what have we won so far? We have made tremendous progress in treating relatively rare cancers of children. Breast and colon cancer are now often chronic diseases.

Municipalities Warn FCC Against 5G Infrastructure Mandate
by Jenna Ebersole, Law360, Washington, 10 February 2017

Several city and town leaders from across the country have urged the Federal Communications Commission against a broad federal mandate to clear the way for infrastructure for next-generation wireless technology at the local level, citing existing staffing and other challenges.

Local officials from Massachusetts, Georgia and Minnesota, as well as the National League of Cities, cautioned FCC staff at the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau on the issue, as the agency takes comments on how to streamline infrastructure installation for 5G.

Next-generation 5G wireless, based on very high-frequency waves that can carry significant amounts of data, would rely heavily on small cells packed closely together because the millimeter wave spectrum cannot carry data very far. That means that siting more infrastructure, including in localities across the U.S., will be a key component of deploying 5G.

Note: The compilation of state smart meter opt out bills listed below does not constitute endorsement of the bills. In some cases, the bills do not provide protection from surcharges for opting out; in some cases, they allow for the installation of a different kind of transmitting meter that is linked with adverse health effects. In many states, AMR meters have already been rolled out and are transmitting 24/7 without the knowledge and consent of residents who are not aware of their increased RF exposures, and the bills only address the future installation of smart meters. States rolling out new AMR meters are claiming that the meters are not smart, misleading citizens. An analog meter with no radio transmitter would be required to address both the privacy and health complaints.

Secret Teacher: giving students wifi has made lessons chaotic
The Secret Teacher, The Guardian, 11 February 2017

Technology is useful for learners, but the school leadership team shouldn’t have introduced wifi without asking teachers

Our school recently started providing in-school wifi access to pupils. Teachingstaff were not privy to the logic – but when the leadership team announced the news in assembly, they were cheered to the rafters by grateful children. The schools grounds have poor phone signal, so logging on through 4G had not been an option, and the internet had only been available through school computers until this point.

I doubt that a decision was made not to talk to us teachers beforehand – school managers, like teachers, are swamped with work, and it probably just didn’t occur to them that we might be interested parties. If they had, I would have voiced my deep concerns.

With the increasing use of cell phones and wireless devices, and in view of heterogeneous study results, there is worldwide concern and alarm among scientists and physicians about the potential health implications from chronic exposures to electromagnetic fields (EMFs) in the radio and microwave range. EMFs are emitted from common items, including cell phones, cell phone towers and base stations, Wi-Fi routers and hubs, smart meters, baby monitors and microwave ovens. Cancers, neurodegenerative disorders, male infertility and neuro-behavioural abnormalities have been linked to these exposures, but not universally. [1]

Sensitivity to EMF has been termed Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (EHS). It is thought to occur in 3-20 per cent of our population and poses the greatest risk to patients with pre-existing cardiac, neurological, dermatological and immunological conditions. However, healthy individuals are often affected as well and those affected complain of sleep disturbances, headaches, fatigue and difficulty concentrating. Symptoms are reduced by avoidance measures. Times of India, 11 February 2017

JAIPUR: Four days after granting permission to install mobile cellphone towers on school and hospital buildings, the Urban Development and Housing (UDH) development on Thursday revoked the order and issued a revised circular.

In the order dated February 6th, it was mentioned that the licensee shall be permitted to erect/install telegraph infrastructure on open land, including private land, government and "public/private locations including roads, parks, playgrounds, hospitals and schools and land earmarked for public utilities."

However, revised order issued on February 9th reads, "Permission shall not be given in the areas/premises restricted for the purpose, under the orders of any competent court."

Director (law) of local self governance (LSG), Ashok Singh said, "The high court has put a ban on installation of mobile towers on schools and hospitals. The department will not allow erecting towers on schools, hospitals and any other buildings on which the stay has been given by court."

The Trump administration has prepared a new executive order that would extinguish regulatory controls designed to prevent US companies profiting from and encouraging the spread of “conflict minerals” that are inflaming violence in Congo.

Remove the Smartphone and You'll Regain the Child

"The evidence is mounting that for whatever reasons most likely having to do with brain development during said years, smartphones are literally addictive to children and teenagers."

Remove the smartphone and you'll regain the child

by John Rosemond, Tribune News Service, 9 February 2017

I am completely, one hundred percent opposed to children, including teenagers still living at home, being in possession of smartphones. No parent has ever been able to give me a logical reason why a minor should enjoy such a privilege, if enjoy is even the proper word.

The most common rationale given is "I want my child to be able to get in touch with me and vice versa." If that is your best defense, purchase a basic cellphone from a box store and give it to your child on selective occasions. I'm referring to the sort of cellphone you possessed, as an adult, ten years ago; to wit, one that will not connect to the internet, does not have a built-in camera, and is not text-friendly.

(Medical Xpress)—A team of researchers affiliated with multiple institutions in Korea has found that genetically altering a type of bacteria and injecting it into cancerous mice resulted in the disappearance of tumors in more than half of test mice. In their paper published in the journal Science Translational Medicine, the researchers describe how they came upon the idea of altering a common type of bacteria to see if it might help fight cancer and the results of their tests.

Why Autism Affects Boys More than Girls
by Alice Park, Time, 8 February 2017

While the definition of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) has changed over the years, one thing has remained relatively constant: the fact that rates of ASD are anywhere from two to five times higher among boys than they are among girls.

Until recently, brain experts haven’t focused much on the possible gender-based reasons for this difference. Now, in a report published in JAMA Psychiatry, scientists point to one possible explanation for the discrepancy.

"In 2012, the French Institute of Health and Medical Research found that kids living within 3 miles of nuclear power plants had double the risk of developing acute leukemia as those living farther away. The peak impact was on children between the ages of 2 and 4, and the findings echoed those of a German study."

Do Doctors Spend Too Much Time with Computers?

Do doctors spend too much time with computers?
by Lisa Rapaport, in.reuters.com,
31 January 2017

(Reuters Health) - For every hour that some doctors devote to direct patient care they may spend about five hours on other tasks, often because they’re tied up with computer work, a Swiss study suggests.

The results are based on observations of just 36 doctors-in-training at one hospital in Switzerland. But research dating back more than half a century has documented physicians dedicating a similar amount of their workdays to direct patient care, said Dr. Nathalie Wenger, lead author of the current study.

“It has not really changed in 50 years,” Wenger, a researcher at the University Hospital of Lausanne, said by email.

During the study period, the doctors spent an average of 1.7 hours per shift with patients, 5.2 hours using computers and 13 minutes doing both, Wenger and colleagues report in the Annals of Internal Medicine.

Has Radiation from Cell Phones and Microwaves Caused Brain Tumor Cases to Double in Denmark?

Has radiation from cell phones and microwaves caused brain tumor cases to double in Denmark?
by Ethan Huff^, newstarget.com,
10 February 2017

A new report by the Swedish Radiation Protection Foundation, Stralskyddsstiftelsen, has concluded that ever-increasing rates of both brain and central nervous system (CNS) tumors, particularly in Denmark, may be caused by persistent exposure to radiation from mobile phones, microwaves, and other “smart” technology devices that pervade modern society.

Published on January 20, the report shows that such tumors have become increasingly more prevalent since 1990, and especially since 2004 when mobile phones really started to become popular. The data suggests that increasing rates of cancer in the brain, spinal cord cover, CNS spinal cord, and cranial nerves are directly correlated with the increasing use of radioactive devices, including in young people.

'Clear Crisis in Cancer Prevention Awareness,' Says the American Institute for Cancer Research

We don't wish to send the wrong message here, namely that this article neglects to mention exposure to non-ionizing radiation as a cancer risk factor, however it does mention the over-emphasis on genetics while "in reality, an estimated 90% to 95% of cancers develop in individuals who lack the genes" which could cause cancer. "Sometimes it's easier to worry about genes or uncontrollable things rather than your everyday choices," states the article.

'Clear Crisis in Cancer Prevention Awareness,' Says AICR

Many Americans remain unaware of key risk factors for cancer, despite the fact that these risk factors can be reduced by making lifestyle changes, says the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR).

Reporting results from its latest survey of awareness among the general public, the group notes that fewer than half of the respondents were aware of well-established lifestyle-related risk factors for cancer, including inactivity, consumption of alcohol, diets high in red meat, diets low in vegetables and fruits, and consumption of processed meats.

In contrast, the vast majority (87%) of respondents believed that genetic disposition had a significant effect on whether or not the average person will develop cancer.

In reality, an estimated 90% to 95% of cancers develop in individuals who lack these genes, the AICR notes.

Cancer Research UK Uses Cancer-Promoting Technology to Promote World Cancer Day 2017

"Tech for good!?"
[Facebook friend's comment: You really couldn't make this up. The microwave radiation from wireless technologies is already classified as a Group 2B Carcinogen, and the partial results of the $25m NTP study showed that phone radiation can cause cancer and DNA damage. 224 scientific experts on the biological effects of this radiation have warned the UN and the World Health Organisation of an "emerging public health crisis related to cell phones, wireless devices, wireless utility meters and wireless infrastructure". So what does Cancer Research UK do...?]

Letter to Mrs. Esther Alder, Administrative Councillor, City of Geneva, on Wireless Technology

Letter to Mrs. Esther Alder, Administrative Councillor in charge of the Department of Social Cohesion and Solidarity, City of Geneva, from a member of the Committee, Association Romande Alerte aux ondes électromagnétiques (translated from French) :

7 February 2017

Madam,

I thank you for all that you are doing for the city of Geneva.  Your support for activities for seniors is particularly appreciated.

As a senior, I have often attended events organized by Cité Seniors.  The variety of activities is enriching.

We have noticed that the program for February - June 2017 offers many digital courses, which is very good.  Some of these technologies, however, especially Wi-Fi and smartphones - which emit radiofrequency radiation classified as  "possibly carcinogenic" for humans by the International Agency for Research on Cancer / World Health Organization - present health risks.

Be Careful What You Wish For: 5G and the Hilltowns

Be Careful What You Wish For:  5G and the Hilltowns
by Jonathan Mirin, Shelburne Falls and West County Independent, 9 February 2017

If I told you that in just a few years you will be able to be anywhere in the hilltowns and download a feature film to your phone in just a few seconds, that would be pretty good, right? If we also had self-driving cars connected to each other and antennas along all the roads that were less prone to accidents than humans are, that would also be good. To top it off, what if everything you purchase — from a lightbulb to a screen or a vacuum — could talk to each other and the house — security system, lighting, heating, AC — and all work together to maximize energy efficiency and save you money while helping the planet avert climate catastrophe. You might just say, “bring it on!” and you are not alone. There are U.S. senators, most recently the Commerce Committee, who want to help make this happen and who have received plenty of information about the benefits of the new wave of technology called 5G or “the Internet of Things” (IoT) from some helpful telecom industry lobbyists.

Did Mobile Phone Radiation Cause the Black-Out of the Driver?

Did waves cause the black-out of the driver?
msn.com/fr-ch, 9 February 2017 (translated from French by the Editor of "Towards Better Health")

A postal bus ended up hitting a tree last week in St. Gallen.  A building ecobiologist believes the accident was caused by radiation from a mobile phone antenna.

A spectacular accident occurred last week in St. Gallen.  Suffering a malaise, the driver of a postal bus lost control of his vehicle.  The bus hit a tree head-on, located in front of a building on the other side of the road.  Six passengers were slightly injured, as well as the driver who had to be cut out.

While the police are still investigating the causes of the accident, Hansueli Stettler, a building ecobiologist from St. Gallen, thinks he knows what caused the driver's malaise.  Interviewed Wednesday by the «St. Galler Tagblatt», he says the cause was "strong mobile phone radiation".  In this case, the driver's moment of weakness combined with the antenna installed on the roof of a gas station situated not far from the site of the accident, would have caused the accident.

Testimony of Electrohypersensitivity: Wi-Fi Gives Me a Pain in My Mouth

Wi-Fi gives me a pain in my mouth

8 February 2017

A WOMAN who is allergic to wifi is calling on the Government to recognise her condition as a disability.

Mary Coales said she suffers from electromagnetic hyper- sensitivity syndrome (EHS), meaning she is made ill by electromagnetic fields from things such as phones, masts and Wi-Fi signals.

The 65-year-old experiences a sharp pain in her mouth whenever she is near laptops, mobiles, TV screens and even some light bulbs.

Miss Coales, of Sidlesham, near Chichester, said: “EHS is increasing vastly and people have been trying for years to get recognition for people affected by this and haven’t succeeded. It’s absolutely disgraceful and I’m willing to be tested.

“It needs to be recognised by the Government, so hospitals and other public places provide safe zones where people can go without Wi-Fi hitting them in these places.”

These Smart TVs Were Apparently Spying on Their Owners

These smart TVs were apparently spying on their owners

The Washington Post, 6 February 2017

The Federal Trade Commission said Monday that Vizio used 11 million televisions to spy on its customers. The television maker agreed to pay $2.2 million to settle a case with the FTC and the New Jersey attorney general's office after the agencies accused it of secretly collecting — and selling — data about its customers' locations, demographics and viewing habits.

With the advent of “smart” appliances, customers and consumer advocates have raised concerns about whether the devices could be sending sensitive information back to their manufacturers. The FTC says the Vizio case shows how a television or other appliance might be telling companies more than their owners are willing to share.

Dizzying Increase in Video Streaming Becoming Major Source of Global Carbon Emissions

Dizzying Increase in Video Streaming Becoming Major Source of Global Carbon Emissions
by Richard Sadler, Climate News Network
31 January 2017

The Internet is fast becoming a major source of global carbon emissions—and the main cause is video demand, the increasing popularity of "real time" streamed video content.

Video streaming to Internet-enabled TVs, game consoles and mobile devices already accounts for more than 60 percent of all data traffic—and the latest forecasts suggest this will rise to more than 80 percent by 2020.

Increasingly, viewers across the world are watching films and TV series in real time through subscriptions to Netflix or Amazon, while social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter are offering more and more streamed video content for free.

"Medical science and epidemiological studies have demonstrated time and again that there is no safe amount of radiation for a living organism to be subjected to."

It’s Finally Here: Radioactive Plume From Fukushima Makes Landfall on America’s West Coast
EnviroNews Oregon, 12 December 2016

Tillamook County, Oregon — Seaborne cesium 134, the so-called “fingerprint of Fukushima,” has been detected on US shores for the first time researchers from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) said this month.

WHOI is a crowd-funded science seawater sampling project, that has been monitoring the radioactive plume making its way across the Pacific to America’s west coast, from the demolished Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in eastern Japan.

The seawater samples were taken from the shores of Tillamook Bay and Gold Beach, and were actually obtained in January and February of 2016 and tested later in the year.
