Recognizing Electrohypersensitivity (EHS) as an Environmentally-Caused Impairment

Recognizing EHS as Environmentally Caused Impairment: DR. OLLE JOHANSSON’S LETTER ON ELECTROHYPERSENSITIVITY (EHS)

DR. OLLE JOHANSSON’S LETTER ON ELECTROHYPERSENSITIVITY (EHS)

Recently, André Fauteux, Editor of the Canadian magazine, “Maison du 21e siècle” asked Dr. Olle Johansson to send him the Swedish Government document confirming that electrosensitivity is a recognized functional impairment. Here is Dr. Johansson’s reply.

“In essence,” he writes, “no official bodies or governments are needed to recognize any functional impairment. The presence or lack of EHS studies are not a prerequisite for any functional impairments, on the contrary. Impairments are viewed from the point of the environment.

“No human being is in itself impaired, there are instead shortcomings in the environment that cause the impairment. Thus, it is the environment that should be “treated”!

MICROWAVES, SCIENCE AND LIES
Revelations about the manipulation of science by mobile phone industry

THE STORY OF THIS MOVIE

The events that inspired this documentary film took place in Alsace, where a group of concerned citizens voiced their opposition to the installation of a mobile-telephony antenna tower near a residential area. One such citizen, Dr George, took action after reading scientific studies revealing that the electromagnetic waves emitted by mobile-telephony antenna towers are harmful to human health. Meanwhile, the mayor of the town believed that this technology was safe, based on the World Health Organization’s 2009 statement that the waves were harmless.

Electromagnetic Radiation, Obesity and Chronic Fatigue, and the Effect of Electromagnetic Radiation on the Body's Brain, Respiratory and Skin Barriers

Two extracts from Dr Andrew Goldsworthy's much longer paper, The biological effects of weak electromagnetic fields – problems and solutions, first published in March 2012. Dr. Goldsworthy is an Honorary Lecturer in Biology at Imperial College London.

Electromagnetic radiation, obesity and chronic fatigue

Gland cells (thyroid, adrenal etc) may be particularly sensitive to radiation because their secretions are normally produced in internal membrane systems, which can also be damaged.

Their secretions are usually released in vesicles (bubbles of membrane) that fuse with the external cell membrane and disgorge their contents to the outside (exocytosis). The vesicle membrane then becomes part of the external membrane. The resulting excess external membrane is counterbalanced by the reverse process (endocytosis) in which the external membrane buds off vesicles to the inside of the cell, which then fuse with the internal membranes.

In this way, an active gland cell may internalise the equivalent of its entire surface membrane about once every half an hour. This means that if the surface membrane is damaged directly by the fields or by electromagnetically conditioned blood, the damaged membrane will rapidly become part of the internal membrane system, upon which its normal glandular activity depends. If the damage is too severe, the cell concerned may lose its normal function. We are now seeing increasing evidence of this.

Effect of exposure and withdrawal of 900-MHz-electromagnetic waves on brain, kidney and liver oxidative stress and some biochemical parameters in male rats

Merhan Mamdouh Ragy. Effect of exposure and withdrawal of 900-MHz-electromagnetic waves on brain, kidneyand liver oxidative stress and some biochemical parameters in male rats. Electromagnetic Biology and Medicine. Posted online on April 8, 2014. (doi:10.3109/15368378.2014.906446).

Abstract

Increasing use of mobile phones in daily life with increasing adverse effects of electromagnetic radiation (EMR), emitted from mobile on some physiological processes, cause many concerns about their effects on human health. Therefore, this work was designed to study the effects of exposure to mobile phone emits 900-MHz EMR on the brain, liver and kidney of male albino rats.

Is Cell Phone Radiation a Risk Factor for Female Infertility?

Is cell phone radiation a risk factor for female infertility?
saferemr.com, March 2014

Although we have considerable evidence that cell phone radiation damages sperm and is associated with male infertility, little attention has been paid to studying the effects of cell phone radiation on female infertility.*

A newly published study by Courtney Lynch and her colleagues found for women trying to get pregnant that stress as measured by the alpha-amylase levels in their saliva predicted whether they were successful. The researchers found that women with the highest levels of this enzyme in their saliva had a 29 percent lower probability of pregnancy compared to those with the lowest levels.

Although this study did not examine EMF exposure, earlier research published by Christoph Augner and his colleagues found that people who lived within 100 meters of cell phone towers had greater salivary alpha-amylase levels. In an experimental study, the researchers found that exposure to higher levels of GSM cell tower radiation increased the levels of this salivary enzyme.

WHO Rollercoaster on Nuclear Radiation

Margaret Chan, Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO) distances herself from WHO's previous position on evaluating nuclear risks. An increase in permissible levels for radiation exposure in Japan triggered this change.

"There is no such thing as a safe dose for low-level radiation" explained Margaret Chan, Director-General of the World Health Organisation, to members of the critical group "Independent WHO" in a spontaneous meeting with them. Up until now WHO has consistently stuck to the position agreed with the Internation Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) which claims that ionising radiation is safe below a certain dose.

The residents of the evacuated Japanese town of Namie near the crippled nuclear plant in Fukushima were contaminated with radiation. They have now taken the responsibility for their health into their own hands.

When Minako Fujiwara tells the story of her dog which died last June, she still gets sad.

"Hair around the dog's neck came off and its skin turned black," the 56-year-old told DW. Similar symptoms were also detected in animals in Chernobyl following the nuclear catastrophe there in 1986. Fujiwara's family had to leave the dog behind when they were ordered to leave the town of Namie, located nine kilometres (5.6 miles) north of the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant. The pet probably died of high radiation.

Fujiwara has so far not experienced any health problems except for high blood pressure. But Shunji Sekine, a physician in Namie, believes the radiation will eventually have a negative impact on public health.

LEIMBACH, April 6 — No smoking, no perfume, no mobile phone use — the list of rules at a newly opened apartment building on the outskirts of Zurich is long.

For a reason: the structure has been purpose built for people who say exposure to everyday products like perfume, hand lotion or wireless devices make them so sick they cannot function.

“I have been suffering since I was a child. This will really move my life in another direction,” said Christian Schifferle, the 59-year-old head of the Healthy Life and Living Foundation (www.stiftung-glw.com), the prime driver behind the project.

Schifferle and the other residents suffer from Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS), a chronic condition not broadly recognised by the medical community. Those afflicted, however, believe it is sparked by low-level exposure to chemicals in things such as cigarette smoke, pesticides, scented products and paint fumes.

Twelve of the 15 apartments in the earth-coloured building in a remote part of Leimbach, on the outskirts of Switzerland’s largest city, have already been rented since it opened in December.

Many occupants also suffer from electromagnetic hypersensitivity, in which electrical circuits and radiation from wireless equipment make them equally ill.

Canadian Teachers' Federation Brief on Wi-Fi Exposure in Classrooms

Brief to the Expert Panel of the Royal Society of Canada Reviewing Safety Code 6
Canadian Teachers' Federation, October 2013

The Canadian Teachers Federation (CTF) is a national alliance of provincial and territorial teacher organizations that represent nearly 200,000 elementary and secondary school teachers across Canada. As part of our role, we not only advocate for teachers but for students in their care as well.

Health Canada has established a level they consider as safe for public exposure to Wi-Fi radiation. This public exposure level is used by Industry Canada when determining the safe level of exposure in the workplace. Our concern is there appears to be varying viewpoints as to the potential danger of exposure. We recommend that a more prudent approach be taken especially in workplaces such as public schools where children are required to be present for a significant amount of time.

Direct Action in Response to Heavy Handed Wireless Industry Crackdown on Democracy- Attacking City Ordinances and Cell Phone Labeling Efforts in Maine, Hawaii, and California

SAN FRANCISCO— Health advocates from the California Brain Tumor Association and Stop Smart Meters! have affixed health warning labels on cell phones for sale in Verizon’s Market St. store in San Francisco in defiance of the wireless industry’s legal bullying of cell phone safety ordinances across the nation. Store management removed the labels but did not summon police, possibly out of concern that potential arrests may highlight a health risk the industry would rather keep quiet. Further embarrassing the company, one of its employees stuck one of the labels to his own phone in an apparent act of defiance against his employer’s suppression of health information regarding its products.

New York: Long Island Homeowners Question Wisdom of More Wireless Antennas in Residential Areas

A document “26 Unanswered Questions and Concerns About Potential Wireless Antennas in Matinecock Village”, provided to the Trustees earlier in the day, lists many potential concerns of the residents. Concerns range from health risks, to risks to wildlife and migratory birds, risks to children, fetuses, the elderly and immuno-compromised, as well as potential autism risks.

Long Island Homeowners Question the Wisdom of More Wireless Antennas in Residential Areas
by Emily, Electromagnetic Health Blog, 25 March 2014

Locust Valley, NY, March 25, 2014. Residents of the Village of Matinecock tonight challenged Village Trustees on whether they have performed adequate due diligence regarding a proposed contract with NY-CLEC LLC (“Crown Castle” or “Crown”), a Crown Castle International affiliate (NYSE-CCI). The contract being considered this evening, were it to have been signed, would have given this unknown corporation, with no local ties to the community, permission to install radiating antennas in Matinecock residential areas, now and in the future, without any review of the technology, or future technology, or its risks. Due to concerns from residents, the Trustees of the Village of Matinecock postponed the matter. Further discussion will continue in two weeks time on April 8th, 2014.

First Case Study to Show Direct Link Between Alzheimer's and Aluminum Toxicity

Vaccines, including Hepatitis A and B, Hib, DTaP
(diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis), pneumococcal vaccine
and Gardasil (HPV), contain aluminum.
This article by Dr. Mercola discusses the aluminum-Alzheimer’s link. Aluminum is everywhere: in foods, medications, vaccines, cosmetics, food and beverage containers, cookware… The article also mentions a new blood that may be able to predict Alzheimer's and chelating agents as a means of detoxifying aluminum for persons with serious Alzheimer’s Disease.

First Case Study to Show Direct Link Between Alzheimer’s and Aluminum Toxicity
by Dr. Mercola, 22 March 2014

Aluminum has been long known to be neurotoxic, with mounting evidence that chronic exposure is a factor in many neurological diseases, including dementia, autism, and Parkinson's disease.

However, definitive scientific proof is difficult to establish due to the lack of longitudinal studies, as well as pushback from industries that use aluminum in their products. Despite the shortage of conclusive studies, mounting scientific evidence really leaves little room for doubt.

Case in point: a new case study from Keele University in the UK1 unequivocally shows high levels of aluminum in the brain of an individual exposed to aluminum at work, who later died from Alzheimer's disease.

While aluminum exposure has been implicated in Alzheimer's and a number of other neurological diseases, this case claims to be "the first direct link" between Alzheimer's disease and elevated brain aluminum following occupational exposure.2

Exposure to Aluminum in Antiperspirants May Present Health Risks

Did You Get Your Dose of Aluminum Today in Your Antiperspirant?
The People’s Pharmacy, 6 February 2014

Most people do several things in the morning without ever thinking twice. They wash their face, brush their teeth and roll on their antiperspirant. Hardly anyone bothers to look at the ingredients on the label, but chances are very good that with every application of antiperspirant you are getting a dose of aluminum.

A recent article in the Journal of Trace Elements in Medicine and Biology titled "If exposure to aluminium in antiperspirants presents health risks, its content should be reduced" offers some sobering points. The French and Swiss scientists summarize their overview:
