HPV Vaccine Gardasil - A Warning!

This article has been updated and is being re-posted:
Making the HPV vaccine (Gardasil and Cervarix) free for all young women under 26 years of age in Switzerland is encouraging unsuspecting, ill-informed persons to accept this vaccine - particularly Gardasil - when it has been called "dangerous" by credible scientists.

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices of the Centers for Disease Control (and Prevention (CDC) advises that boys aged 11 and 12 and even as young as 9, and young men receive the HPV vaccine to protect them from throat or anal cancers resulting from sexual activity.  The CDC has been recommending that adolescent girls be vaccinated since 2006, the date of the Federal Drug Administration’s approval of the vaccine.  The vaccine is supposed to protect young women against cervical cancer, a cancer that presents a very low risk for women in developed countries.

Gardasil Victim Speaks Out After Two Years (5 min. - 3 June 2009)

Brittney gives an emotionally charged overview of what her life has been like for the past two years. She struggles daily with the fact her life has been forever changed. A doctor frightened her into taking the Gardasil vaccine by telling her she could get an HPV through a "possible" lab accident at college - where her blood could mingle with someone elses who had an HPV. She was never told HPV's are sexually transmitted diseases. Having no other information, she allowed herself to be given a vaccine she never needed. Now she wishes the TRUTH to be told - more testing of this vaccine is warranted before another young woman is injured.

News from Geneva: The Franco-Valdo-Genevois Region Is Creating a Community in Transitiion

Today, the franco-valdo-genevois region is creating a community in transition. (Thank you to the site transitiongeneveregion.net for this information and Eco-Attitude – www.ecoattitude.org.)

Stakeholders in the franco-valdo-genevois region who see the need for changing the paradigm, don’t remain isolated : join working groups and meetings in order to establish relationships and create synergy ! This large regional community needs to be created in order to allow us to absorb the shocks to come which will oblige us to change our behavior.

What is transition ?

It is ordinary citizens who organize themselves to prepare – in collaboration with their local authorities and in a positive spirit – community resilience in the face of changes in society which are coming. Conscious of the inevitable impacts on all communities of climate change and the depletion of natural resources of our planet, they are putting in place, on their territory (city, town, neighborhood, school, organization…), actions destined to lay the foundations of a society that is a better place to live by limiting as much as possible our ecological footprint.

Synthetic Endocrine Disrupting Xenoestrogens

This article from Wake Up World on xenoestrogens is very comprehensive.  It shows us to what extent toxic substances in our air, water and soil are affecting our health and what we can do to avoid these.

Synthetic Endocrine Disrupting XENOESTROGENS: What Are They, How Do They Affect Us and How To Avoid Them
by Raluca Schachter, Contributing Writer for Wake Up World, 21 January 2013

I haven’t met an adult yet who doesn’t experience some sort of hormonal imbalances. The fact that most conventionally trained doctors fail miserably in this area and are not able to detect and correctly address such imbalances, makes it even more widespread.

What is really happening? People started to wake up to the reality that much has to do with our lifestyle and dietary choices. But it’s also another, less talked about aspect: environmental exposure to chemicals. And this affects us all to some degree.

Since the end of World War II, some 100,000 synthetic chemicals, pollutants (waste products), and toxicants (such as pesticides and herbicides) have been released into our air, water, or soil. Of the 1000 or more different substances manufactured and released into the environment each year, most are not tested for safety.

International Workshop on Environmental Carcinogenesis: A Focus on Epigenetics, Royal Academy of Medicine, Brussels, 26 October 2012

On 26 October 2012, the European Cancer and Environment Research Institute (ECERI) held its first International Workshop at the Royal Academy of Medicine of Belgium, entitled "Environmental carcinogenesis: a focus on epigenetics”.

The newly created ECERI (headquartered in Brussels, chaired by Prof. D. Belpomme, oncologist in Paris) is an association of several European research centers aimed at advancing research environment links to cancer and the resulting need for primary prevention methods. Professors Janos Fruhling and Luc Montagnier co-chair the Scientific Council of ECERI, which includes internationally recognized scientific personalities. Although ECERI is focused primarily on cancer, it does not ignore other chronic diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, autism and Alzheimer's disease (the latter has recently shown a link with the environment--pointed out by Prof. Belpomme in his introductory lecture at the Workshop.

Prof. Belpomme was one of the first to promote the concept of environmental carcinogenesis. In the vast majority of countries, the incidence of cancer has increased in recent decades. The traditional cancer risk factors of aging populations and/or lifestyle, such as smoking, alcoholism, dietary imbalances, sedentary lifestyle, etc. do not alone account for that increase. So physical, chemical and biological degradation of our environment - in particular the presence of many carcinogenic, mutagenic and / or toxic for reproduction pollutants must be considered. Professor Belpomme along with Professor Montagnier had already delivered such a message in 2005, at the Begium Royal Academy of Medicine.  Since then, progress in molecular biology--particularly epigenetics--enables us to understand the role of the environment in carcinogenensis (and other diseases),

Following are summaries of two presentations at the workshop and concluding remarks. See here for the workshop’s summary document in full.

European Environment Agency: Pay Attention to Early Warning Signs on Technology Health Risks

"In the absence of more solid scientific evidence on potential harmful effects caused by new technologies it would be prudent to take a precautionary approach, so as to avoid damage to human and ecosystem health…We cannot ignore the past lessons which tell us that the costs of inaction are often higher and more tragic than those of early action," warns the European Environment Agency’s Executive Director, Professor Jacqueline McGlade.  Here is the link to the report.

Europe: Pay attention to early warning signs on technology health risks
by Emily Beament, Independent.ie, 23 January 2013

MORE attention should be paid to early warnings that technology ranging from mobile phones to pesticides could be harmful to health and the environment, it was urged today.

Danger signals of the potential risks of different technologies often go unheeded or suppressed until they are causing death, illness or environmental destruction, according a new report from the European Environment Agency.

Naperville, Illinois : Armed Police Assist Forced Smart Meter Deployment; Two Mothers are Arrested

Naperville resident Jenn Stahl is arrested after trying
to block the installation of a new smart meter at her
home (Credit: CBS)
This turn of events, where two mothers were arrested during forced installation of smart meters at one mother’s home is shocking. The woman is a single mother with a chronically ill child.  She fears for her child's health and safety.  The police officer explained,  "It’s new technology. It’s city property. The city’s allowed to upgrade their technology, upgrade their equipment."  Where are citizens’ rights to health? See the accompanying video recording this aggression.

Two Naperville Women Arrested After Trying To Block ‘Smart Meters’ CBS News, Chicago, 23 January 2013

NAPERVILLE (CBS) – Two Naperville mothers were arrested Wednesday, after they tried to block utility workers from installing new “smart meters.”

CBS 2’s Dana Kozlov reports one of those women was released from custody late Wednesday afternoon, the other was still in custody, but should be released soon.

Their arrests were the culmination of a two-year battle against “smart meter” installation in Naperville.

At Jenn Stahl’s home in Naperville, officers were forced to cut open a lock on her back gate to allow crews to get in to access her meter, when she refused to open the gate herself.

World Economic Forum 2013 : Global Risks : "the X Factor" of the "Costs of Living Longer"

The World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, will begin tomorrow,
23 January 2013. The last section of a Forum report, "Global Risks 2013" considers five “X factors” beyond high-risk concerns of the moment which could present serious future risks - or opportunities : runaway climate change, significant cognitive enhancement, rogue deployment of geoengineering, costs of living longer, and discovery of alien life. The Report makes interesting reading and is available here. See also the cover page of the World Economic Forum site which offers a short video on global risks.

Following is the section on “costs of living longer”. Perhaps I am paranoid, but reading the description and assessment of these risks makes me wonder whether discussion of these issues will lead to a human-centered approach to dealing with these risks (current and future) or a harsher reaction which would include ways to cut down on health care costs, as we see happening in the United Kingdom.  The rogue geo-engineering risk, which will be posted later, is disturbing because events seem to be moving in this direction. Several years ago, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation requested patents on methods to control hurricanes, which would offer 18 years of legal rights to the idea for Bill Gates and co-inventors. This sounds very much like placing weather control into the hands of a few private individuals, as the report says, “a well funded individual with good intentions who may take matters into their own hands.”

Costs of Living Longer – extract from “Global Risks 2013”

We are getting better at keeping people alive for longer. Are we setting up a future society struggling to cope with a mass of arthritic, demented and, above all, expensive, elderly who are in need of long term care and palliative solutions?

Media Silent on Fukushima Radiation Impact in U.S.

by Brian Lynch, OpEdNews Op Eds, 8 January 2013

Sometimes big news stories can only be seen by the shadows they cast. You would think that it should be easy to find detailed updates on theFukushima disaster‘s impact on our fishing industry, milk production, global radiation distribution patterns, etc. You would be mistaken. The massive media coverage following the initial disaster has fallen nearly silent. Some frustrated environmental advocates have suggested that there is a media blackout. Probably not, but media follow-up stories are few and far between these days.

In July of last year there were major stories about Fukushima and the plume of radiation reaching across the Pacific Ocean towards North America. On July 16, 2012, Deborah Dupre of the Examiner reported the following:

“As hair falls out of a Fukushima victim’s head, a new German study reports that North America’s West Coast will be the area most contaminated by Fukushima cesium of all regions in Pacific in 10 years, an “order-of-magnitude higher” than waters off Japan, according to a new German study followed by a former New York Times journalist going inside the no-entry zone and reporting radiation levels over 10 times higher than Tepco’s data.”

The article was accompanied by this scary graphic:

Is Fukushima a Factor in Japan's Record Deaths in 2011-12?

"A close independent look at the mortality data in Japan from years 2011 and 2012 suggests at least 6,000 deaths, and likelier many thousands more, were triggered or abetted by radioactive contamination of the nation’s food supply and living environment.

"Bound by their outdated norms of strict case privacy, doctors and hospitals are failing their patients by not speaking out for public health, starting with a critique of the Health Ministry for issuing a report that allows no consideration of radiation as a health threat. The Fukushima meltdowns are posing a life-and-death issue, and the Hippocratic Oath demands a courageous ethical stance among health professionals."

Is Fukushima A Factor In Japan’s Record Deaths In 2011-12?

by Yoichi Shimatsu, exclusive to Rense.com, posted in the Pakalert Press, 3 January 2013

The CIA’s projected Japan deathrate for 2012 is shown in this chart [no link provided]. Instead, after the Fukushima disaster, the actual mortality rate is the same as 2011.

Contravening the Japanese government’s claim that not a single person has yet to die from Fukushima radiation, national mortality figures just released to the press by the Ministry of Health and Welfare presents undeniable data confirming a record high death rate since the 3.11 disaster.

The Baby Scope App

Application use with iPad.
Placing iPhone/iPad products on this blog may be a form of publicity, inciting people to buy these devices and applications without giving thought to possible health risks.  It would seem that companies and entrepreneurs are developing gadgets and especially, applications, which the consumer rushes out to buy because it's the latest craze or because it's "cute".

One of the latest such applications is "The Baby Scope App", used with an iPhone/iPad microphone which allows an expecting mother to hear her baby's heartbeat during pregnancy.  The application is ranked second on the top Paid list and 4th on the Grossing list in the United Kingdom.

According to instructions:
"The application should only be used at "Air Plane" mode to avoid any redundant waves emission.  The application does not use any communication capability like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc.  It only uses the internal microphone."

If a mother does not use the "Air Plane" mode, she will be exposing her baby to harmful microwave radiation which could cause autism and developmental/ behavioral problems in her baby.

Monsanto's Five Most Dubious Contributions to Planet Earth

Here are some of Monsanto’s most dubious contributions to society over their past century in business: saccharin, polystyrene, Agent Orange, Bovine Growth Hormone, genetically modified seeds.

Monsanto’s Five Most Dubious Contributions to Planet Earth
by Oliver Lee, takepart.com, 10 August 2011 (article posted on Wake Up World)

Oh, Monsanto, you sly dog. You keep trying to make us believe you are “committed to sustainable agriculture” with your canny advertisements on American Public Media, even as you force-feed farmers your lab-grown Frankenseeds that expire every year (which are, let’s be honest, opposite of sustainable).

But we shouldn’t be surprised by the mixed message, should we? After all, you’ve been doing this for decades. With long-running corporate sponsorships, like Disney’s Tomorrowland, building reserves of goodwill as you spray us with DDT, it’s clear you’re entitled to send out products into the world with nary an environmental or health concern—just as long as you spend a bit of that hard-earned cash convincing us otherwise.

"Dumbing Down the American Population"

There are a number of reasons why the United States has a poor rating compared to other countries in literacy, math and science skills, and infant mortality. Even life expectancy is on the decline, especially of women. The United States may be advanced in technology, but is this good for our health? Examples can be cited: the toxins in genetically modified food and the dangers to health of wireless technology. The poor quality of our industrial food supply, unhealthy food choices, unavailability of healthy foods in low-income communities, toxic substances in our environment are causing an obesity and diabetes epidemic. Too much time spent engaged in the social media – using computers, cell phones, iPads and other gadgets is taking away our ability to reflect and criticize and even, to read.

U.S. Children are Suffering More Chronic Disease and Disorders and a High Percentage are Developmentally Disabled

Alarming New Studies: 50% of U.S. Children Have Chronic Disease/Disorders, 21% Developmentally Disabled
by Mr. Augie, Journal of Natural Food and Health, 26 May 2011

What can each of us do to change this?

American children are suffering more and more disorders—and are growing into even sicker adults—the worst of most major countries. Two studies were released this week underscore this alarming reality.

In a study published in Academic Pediatrics, an estimated 43% of US children (32 million) currently have at least 1 of 20 chronic health conditions assessed, increasing to 54.1% when overweight, obesity, or being at risk for developmental delays are included. The estimate is derived from 2007 data—4 years old. This tells us matters are much worse now–perhaps 50% are now chronically ill not counting obesity.

Unvaccinated Children Get Sick Less Often

Half the children in the United States suffer from chronic diseases and disorders and 15% are developmentally disabled. According to this article, no study has ever been done comparing the health of unvaccinated to vaccinated children. Today, children in the U.S. receive a massive load of vaccinations – anywhere from 15-26 doses before their first birthdays.

Survey shows unvaccinated children get sick less often
by Staff Writer, NYR Natural News, 14 January 2013

Natural Health News — It’s a controversial subject that usually provokes acrimonious arguments, and yet the results of an ongoing German survey suggest that children who are unvaccinated suffer fewer of a whole range of diseases.

The survey, which currently includes data on around 8,000 unvaccinated children, aged newborn to 19 years, shows vaccinated children have at least 2 to 5 times more diseases and disorders than unvaccinated children.

The data for unvaccinated children is compared to the national German KIGGS health study of the children in the general population. The complete data and study results are here.

The data (see chart below), first released in 2011, was collected from parents with vaccine-free children via an internet questionnaire hosted by the group Vaccine Injury and Andreas Bachmair, a German classical homoeopathic practitioner.

The comparisons of the health of vaccine-free children with the health statistics of the general population are considered to be the same as comparing unvaccinated with vaccinated because vaccination is so ubiquitous.

Cell Phone Radiation May Cause Hyperactivity in Babies

Don't use a cell phone when pregnant or at least
severely limit its use and certainly, do not use a
laptop on your lap !
by Raliat Ahmed-Yusuf, www.medindia.net, 12 January 2013

It is said that radiation in small dose is harmless, but no amount is actually safe for the body. Even though it is used to treat some kind of ailments, such as cancer, the side effects far outweigh its benefits. In most instances, exposure to radiation is harmful, because it plays a role in later health. RALIAT AHMED-YUSUF writes that it can cause developmental problem in fetuses, fertility and bodily functioning.

The past few years have seen some raging controversies on the usage of mobile phones. More than 80 per cent of the world population own cell phones and the number keeps increasing. There are quite a number of evidences from scientists about the harm of electro-magnetic radiation from cell phones.

Fracking the Amish

Although I live in Switzerland, which has so far managed to keep fracking at bay, several of my cousins and their families live in the region of the Marcellus Shale, the 400-million-year-old, mile-deep formation that sweeps from West Virginia, across Pennsylvania, and into New York and holds priceless reserves of natural gas. I visited the Amish country in Pennsylvania, with its beautifully-kept farms, families who live with no electricity and use horses to till the fields and to travel from one village to the next. The Amish community however is mixed about allowing fracking on their land. Following is the first part of a very long article on this issue in the Amish region of Pennsylvania.

An Amish farmer takes a cell phone call as transgenic
tobacco dries inside his 250-year-old barn.
The Amish are open to new technologies. According to a 2003 article from Wired, some farmers cultivate genetically modified tobacco, which is not against Amish law.  Farming is not a lucrative business, thus some Amish would welcome ways to become more prosperous.

Fracking, however, would ruin this idyllic landscape. The countryside would become one of “mixing tanks, storage tanks, compressors, gas pipes, flaring towers, diesel generators, office trailers and porta-potties. Plastic-lined ponds of several acres to hold either freshwater or “produced” water that flows up and out of the wells would be dug. During development of the site, trucks carrying water, chemicals, sand and other equipment would come and go—up to 1,000 of them a day.” Can you picture horses and buggies on these same roads? The entire environment would be in danger of air, soil, and water pollution and there would even be risk of seismic events.

What Are the Risks of the Pill?

France insisted Friday [11 January 2013] on restricting the prescription of newer-generation birth control pills and urged the rest of Europe to follow suit. Following this article from Agence France-Presse, read an excerpt from a recent article on the subject from the Tribune de Genève. France reluctant to restrict newer generation birth control pill despite health concerns
by Agence France-Presse, 11 January 2013

France insisted Friday on restricting the prescription of newer-generation birth control pills even as Europe’s medicines watchdog declared there was no evidence to back a health warning.

Citing concerns over risks of blood clots from the so-called 3rd- and 4th-generation pills, France said it would limit prescriptions of these contraceptives and urged the rest of Europe to follow suit.

Health Minister Marisol Touraine said she would ask the European Medicines Agency (EMA) to “modify” its market authorisation for 3rd- and 4th-generation contraceptive pills.

“The objective is that these pills are no longer prescribed to women as a first option,” she said in a statement.

Attention! This Contraceptive Can Harm Your Health

Reposted:   On 8 December 2011, the Swiss TV – Télévision Suisse romande – showed a documentary on the dangers of this contraceptive, “Attention, cette pilule peut nuire à votre santé” (“Attention, this pill can harm your health”).

Update (17 January 2013): As of March 2012, approximately 12,000 lawsuits have been brought against Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, Inc., the manufacturer of Yasmin, Yaz, Beyaz and Safyral, alleging an increased risk of blood clots (deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE)) and gallbladder problems. Ocella, the generic version of Yasmin, is also associated with serious side effects. As well as blood clots, DVT and pulmonary embolism, all of the oral contraceptives containing ethinyl estradiol and the new "fourth generation" progestin drospirenone (DRSP) have been linked to: blood clots, gallbladder disease, stroke, cerebrovascular accidents (CVA), heart attack, myocardial infarction, death. News from Geneva: Dead in a Studio and Forgotten for 28 Months

Michel Christen enjoying his family
A social crime ? Yesterday evening, RTS1 (Radio télévision suisse romande) showed a documentary revealing new details about the death of Michel Christen. On 12 May 2005, this 53-year-old man, reduce to a skeleton, was discovered 28 months after his death, in his studio in the center of the city of Geneva. His ex-wife and daughter live in the same city. “The forgotten dead” are not so rare. The Press Officer of the Vaudois cantonal police, Jean-Christophe Sauterel, says, “We discover one a month on average persons in their homes several days or several weeks after their death”. It is not possible to find the original article by Thierry Mertenat, reporting on this tragic incident, which appeared in the Tribune de Genève on 6 June 2005. The documentary in French is available for viewing on the RTS1 site until 23 January 2013.

This is perhaps an indication of the passivity of Geneva : its inhabitants, its social services … This is one major reason why advocates can barely make a dent in awareness regarding vital issues concerning society, health, and the environment. Nor does one advocacy group join forces with another to enhance power. In the case of Mr. Christen, administrative services were slow to react and did not co-ordinate with one another. Although he had been treated at the cantonal hospital (HUG) for a serious illness, no one ever enquired when he failed to show for a follow-up appointment. The post piled up in his mailbox, social services continued to pay his allowances, then cut them off, enquiries were made to neighbors, the bad smell coming from the flat in the days following his death was attributed to a dead rat. His café “friends” never considered he might have died … people said he was in hospital, away. And where were his ex-wife and daughter who also lived in the same city? People commented that Mr. Christen “wanted to erase his life”. I don’t think so. Such a desire is also a call for help. A lady committed suicide in the flat next to mine in Geneva. A social service worker discovered her body, perhaps a day or two later. We live in a very cold society in the city of Geneva. We are all guilty of allowing this tragic incident to happen.

International Atomic Energy Agency Shifts 47 Japanese Reactors Into "Long-Term Shutdown" Category

Historic Move:  IAEA Shifts 47 Japanese Reactors Into “Long-Term Shutdown” Category
from World Nuclear Industry Status Report, 16 January 2013

In an unprecedented move, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has shifted 47 Japanese nuclear reactors from the category “In Operation” to the category “Long-term Shutdown” (LTS) in its web-based Power Reactor Information System (PRIS). The number of nuclear reactors listed as “In Operation” in the world thus drops from 437 yesterday to 390 today, a level last seen in Chernobyl-year 1986 and a dramatic step of the IAEA’s official statistics in recognizing industrial reality in Japan. This is without doubt a unique revision of world operational nuclear data.

Japan's 50 main reactors have provided some 30% of the country's electricity.  This was expected to increase
to at least 40% by 2017.  The prospect now is for about half of this.  (Source:  Artcile updated in January 2013:
"Nuclear Power in Japan" from World Nuclear Association)

Note:  As of this date, 17 January 2013, only two reactors (Ohi) are in operation in Japan.

Cancer in Africa: Fighting a Nameless Enemy

Most of Africa's around 2,000 languages have no word for cancer. The common perception in both developing and developed countries is that it's a disease of the wealthy world, where high-fat, processed-food diets, alcohol, smoking and sedentary lifestyles fuel tumor growth.

Yet Adu's skin cancer is one of an estimated one million new cancer cases sub-Saharan Africa will see this year - a number predicted to double to 2 million a year in the next decade.

Until 2007, there were no oncologists at all in Adu’s country, Ghana - and that's still the case in some neighboring countries. Sierra Leone, for example, has more than 6 million people and no cancer doctors. "Countries in the region like Sierra Leone, Togo, Guinea have absolutely nothing in terms of cancer care," said Kerr. "That means Ghana's six or so oncologists have to serve neighboring countries as well."

Read also the post "The Globalization of Cancer" which explains some of the reasons for the increase in cancer in the developing world.   In the case of Africa, could another reason be the increased use of wireless technology?  Read the next post.

Health Canada Banning Non-invasive Breast Cancer Detecting Thermography to Serve High Interests

Thermography image
This article describes the differences between mammography and thermography.  The point of the article is that women are often unable to make informed decisions for themselves, without the government telling them what is safe and what works.  We must learn to be better informed and to speak up about health  care choices.

Health Canada Banning Non-invasive Breast Cancer Detecting Thermography to Serve High Interests
by Raluca Schachter, Contributing Writer for Wake Up World, 8 January 2013

Corporations like mainstream media, multi-billion dollars pharmaceutical companies, and the cancer industry don’t know anything about health. They don’t want to know and they don’t need to know. They are businesses and they need to make money. They use fear and the promise of a symptom-free life as motivators. They also have to serve high interests and brainwash the population with theories, which change according to the drug or toxic therapy that’s being marketed and brings the most profit at the time.

On my phone interview with Dr. Alexander Mostovoy from Thermography Clinic, in Toronto, Canada, I have found out about the aggressive propaganda, which was generated against thermography, in order to protect an exclusive, risky, invasive and radiation causing technology like mammography.

Shocking Trends in Health Care in the United Kingdom

There is a shocking trend in the United Kingdom to cut down on the costs of health care. A national audit reveals that, in total, around 57,000 patients a year are dying in NHS (National Health Service) hospitals without being told that efforts to keep them alive have been stopped. A look at cancer treatment in the UK has raised the alarm that people over 65 may be being denied the best cancer treatments because of their age, despite many being robust enough to withstand the treatments. There is a proposal to take away certain social benefits from persons who are obese if they do not exercise. This last example could be positive, however, obesity is not just a question of diet and exercise. The issue involves access to healthy food, the way in which food is grown and processed, the aggressive marketing of foods high in fat and sugar.

Following is the article on NHS hospitals. The next post is on cancer treatment for persons over age 65.

Half of those on Liverpool Care Pathway never told

Surge in Small Cell Sites

Vodaphone small cell
In 2013, operators will begin deploying miniature cellular base stations in unprecedented numbers. Global shipments of outdoor small cells—many destined for lampposts and bus stops in busy city squares—will surpass 2 million by 2016. Factor in indoor small cells—for homes, businesses, malls, and sports stadiums—and that number approaches 37 million. Informa, a European research firm, predicts that the same year, 90 percent of all cellular base stations will be small cells. These base stations will also blanket rural dead zones.

As if health risks from smart meters transmitting power consumption details by radio waves weren’t enough to contend with, we may now have to worry about “smart” water meters.

Now Radio Waves Coming from Your Faucet?
by Bob Unruh, WND/ Texans United Against Smart Meters, 2 January 2013

1 man stands up against possible health impact

You’ve heard about concerns over smart meters that transmit intimate details of power consumption by radio waves, as well as the related dangers from the transmissions from cell phones.

Now, it appears, American consumers also may have reason to worry about their water meters.

Word of the issue comes from a resident of Arden Hills, Minn., who is fighting the city’s demand to install new remote reading units on all city water meters because of the possible health and privacy impacts that he says still are undetermined.

Are Cell Phones Killing Bees?

"If the decline of the bee population continues as it has, we may eventually end up with a global food crisis of unthinkable proportions. So far, the erection of cell towers has few restrictions. And the usage of cell phones continues to explode. What will it take for people to finally link cell phones and bees—and see the danger we all face?"  Have a look at this very short videoclip : after installation of a smart meter, a bee colony, which had existed for nearly 10 years in a nearby tree, disappeared.

Are Cell Phones Killing Bees?
by Vidya, Editor, Earthcalm, 2012

I have never much liked bees. Probably because I’ve been stung by them in the past, and it’s always hurt like hell.

So when I began hearing about the decline of bee populations in the world, I found it kind of an interesting phenomenon to contemplate, along with all the other strange changes that seem to be happening in our natural world. But not something to really be concerned about.

Until someone pointed out the obvious to me: that bees are totally essential to the growing of food on this planet—that at least 75% of what we eat is dependent on bee pollination. That got my attention.

Food Poisoning on a Global Scale

Vandana Shiva
Environmental activist Vandana Shiva describes the poisons in our food on a global scale and in India, her native country: pesticide residues, additives, adulteration, GMOs, and the terrible toll it is taking on our health.

Food Poisoning on a Global Scale
by Vandana Shiva, Common Dreams/The Asian Age, 2 January 2013

Food is supposed to provide us nourishment and health but because of the toxins it contains, what we consume has become a major threat to our health. Some toxic substances are added to our food physically, through adulteration, while some enter our food system chemically, through pesticide residues. And some toxins enter the food chain genetically, through genetic engineering of seeds and crops. Even food packaging can be a source of toxins in food.

While physical adulteration, like stones in pulses, can be removed, the chemicals can’t be. The pollutants will stop entering our food system only when poisonous chemicals are banned. Genetic pollution and contamination of food is the new, big threat to food safety and it cannot be undone. Once toxic genes are put into a plant, they are in the genetic code. There is no rollback. Which is why the debate on biosafety of GMOs is so intense.

BioInitiative 2012 Report Issues New Warnings on Wireless and Electromagnetic Fields

Far more serious health risks of EMF and wireless technologies
include glioma (a malignant brain tumor), acoustic neuroma,
and sperm damage.

BioInitiative 2012 Report Issues New Warnings on Wireless and EMF
Posted on EMFacts Consultancy, 5 January 2013

University at Albany, Rensselaer, New York

A new report by the BioInitiative Working Group 2012 says that evidence for risks to health has substantially increased since 2007 from electromagnetic fields and wireless technologies (radiofrequency radiation). The Report reviews over 1800 new scientific studies.  Cell phone users, parents-to-be, young children and pregnant women are at particular risk.

“There is a consistent pattern of increased risk for glioma (a malignant brain tumor) and acoustic neuroma with use of mobile and cordless phones” says Lennart Hardell, MD at Orebro University, Sweden. “Epidemiological evidence shows that radiofrequency should be classified as a human carcinogen. The existing FCC/IEE and ICNIRP public safety limits and reference levels are not adequate to protect public health.”

News from Geneva: Transocean Gets Off Easy With 'Wholly Inadequate' Gulf Oil Spill Settlement

2010 explosion of Deepwater Horizon
Transocean Deepwater Inc., a multinational company based in Geneva, Switzerland, owner of the drilling rig, Deepwater Horizon, that exploded in 2010 in the Gulf of Mexico, was ordered to pay $1.4 billion in civil and criminal fines and penalties for environmental degradation and loss of human lives. According to environmentalist groups, the penalty is “wholly inadequate”. BP settled for $4 billion in criminal charges last month for its role in the oil spill disaster. The real cost of the oil spill is estimated to be $60 billion.  Transocean shares (RIG) surged the most in 28 months after the settlement was announced yesterday. The company owns 39 rigs actively drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, more than any other operator.

Those responsible for 'largest environmental disaster in American history' continue to roam free in Gulf of Mexico

Transocean Deepwater Inc. was handed a free pass by the U.S. Department of Justice Thursday, pleading guilty to violations of the Clean Water Act in exchange for a relatively nominal fine and no further criminal penalties for the 2010 oil spill that polluted the Gulf of Mexico with 200 million gallons of oil over a three month period, causing untold damage.

$120 Million Civil Lawsuit Alleging Wireless Smart Meter Health Effects Filed Against San Diego Gas and Electric

Deborah Cooney
Acting as her own attorney, Deborah Cooney has filed a 12,000-word $120 million civil lawsuit [attached] blaming San Diego Gas and Electric and others for the loss of her ability to live in California and the company's failure to protect her from harm due to the presence of smart meters in her neighborhood. She “could feel the immediate effects of radiation when she walked in the front door, experiencing a pins-and-needles feeling all over her skin, muscle contractions, stiffness, and pain, ataxia, dehydration, etc. Plaintiff felt a shock to her heart … at exactly 1:00, 5:00, and 9:00, as if something was being transmitted every four hours, on the hour. The shock would initiate cascading heart attack symptoms: chest pain, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, nausea, circulatory problems, edema, numbness and an impending sense of doom”.   Cooney has been forced to flee California to live in Green Bank, West Viriginia, an area free of electromagnetic waves, as a “radiation refugee”.

May this be the first of many lawsuits against companies installing wireless smart meters.

Switzerland Decides in Favor of Prolonging the Moratorium on Cultivation of Genetically Modified Plants until end 2017

Philippe Roch, author of the article, in his garden in Russin,
canton Geneva, with his sheep, of the race "roux du
Valais" which he is helping to preserve.
On 12 December 2012, the Swiss State Council decided in favor of prolonging the moratorium on cultivation of genetically modified (GMO) plants until the end of 2017. The moratorium was established in 2005 and had already been extended in 2010 for two years. Switzerland thus considers that GMO plants are of no interest to Swiss agriculture. The country wishes, on the contrary, to develop a durable agriculture of quality. Moreover, the cultivation of GMO plants on Swiss soil, emphasizes StopOGM “would generate supplementary costs that no one wishes to assume.” (Ref : InfoOGM)

Yes, it is reasonable to be wary of GMOs and their devotees
by Philippe Roch, Le Temps, 25 September 2012. (Translated from French) See Dr. Roch’s site (in French) : www.pirassay.com .

The end of work on National Research Program 59 on GMOs was celebrated with a media frenzy before research reports were even available, with the slogan: “GMOs present no danger for health or the environment”, or “Science gives its blessing to GMOs”. The absolute nature of this affirmation is incompatible with the spirit of science; it reveals an ideological position. A scientist always has a doubt, and he does not draw general preemptory conclusions from a few ad-hoc studies, especially in a field as complex as genetics.

U.S. Navy Sailors File Massive Lawsuit Against TEPCO for Radiation Lies

USS Ronald Reagan
Eight sailors from the USS Ronald Reagan are suing TEPCO, claiming it lied about dangers from a radiation leak from the Fukushima nuclear plant when they engaged in search and rescue efforts along the Japanese coastline after the March 2011 tsunami. This is another in the series of lawsuits that are beginning to be taken against TEPCO in connection with the nuclear catastrophe and the first involving American service members. The complaint, filed on 21 December 2012 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California, seeks a jury trial and damages of $40 million each for being “rendered infirm” and their bodies “poisoned” by radiation and creation of a $100 million fund to cover costs of medical monitoring and treatment. The sailors allege medical conditions such as headaches, difficulty concentrating, rectal bleeding and thyroid problems. One sailor already has cancer. Another member of the carrier’s crew, Kim Gieseking, was pregnant at the time of the disaster and her one-year-old baby daughter is listed among the plaintiffs in the suit. One sailor commented, “No amount of money would compensate me if I’m 23 years old and I’m bleeding from my [behind] or have thyroid problems,” he said. He added it was about getting justice for people who rushed to aid Japan in its time of need.

US Navy Sailors Have Filed A Massive Lawsuit Against Tokyo Power For Radiation Lies
Business Insider/Agence France Presse, 29 December 2012 (See also article from Military.com.)

Eight US Navy sailors are suing Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) for hundreds of millions of dollars over allegations the Japanese firm lied to them about radiation dangers after a tsunami-triggered meltdown at the Fukushima nuclear plant.

Wireless Power - Another New Danger?

New technology that allows for wireless charging of electronic
devices could make a rarity of cord jungles like the one in this

City during the blackout caused by Hurricane Sandy.
Wireless Power May Cut the Cord for Plug-In Devices, Including Cars
by Will Ferguson, National Geographic News, 28 December 2012

A mobile phone that charges in your pocket, a flat-screen TV that needs no power cord, a car fueled by a cordless panel in the floor: In a nondescript building just outside Boston, these and other applications of wireless electricity signal a future with fewer snaking cables.

WiTricity, a company spun off from research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), aims to redefine how people use energy, making it possible to power devices without ever plugging them into an outlet. In WiTricity's lab, various devices run on power transmitted via electric coils through the air.

"More Than Honey"

Recently, I saw Swiss filmmaker, Markus Imhoof’s documentary, « More Than Honey » (click here for official trailer). It was disturbing, especially the scene in the almond grove monoculture of California, stretching as far as the eye can see, where bees are treated as “money”.  It requires 1.3 million colonies of bees to pollinate the groves, and bees add a value of $15 billion to crops such as these.  Here bees are trucked in to pollinate the almond and cherry trees, then taken half way across the country, first to Washington State to pollinate the apple orchards, then as far as the Dakotas and back to California. It reminds us of poor migrant workers being trucked from orchard to farm, living in sometimes salubrious conditions, or worse, industrial farm animals, being trucked from green pastures to feed lots to slaughterhouses. This affects the health of bees so that they must be treated with vitamins and antibiotics, just as we treat industrial farm animals.

At the end of the film, one beekeeper is shown with his colonies of “killer bees”. Looking for a better place to be, the colony moved from a cactus to a cave, just like electrosensitive persons fleeing the harmful environment for a healthier one to live in caves. Only, what made me uneasy is that these were killer bees, more aggressive, hardier creatures – and if they must flee, what is happening to the rest of the bees and to us? Einstein said if bees were to disappear, man would follow four years later. Is this where we are headed? The film makes no mention of the effect of electromagnetic radiation from wireless technologies on bees, despite a Swiss scientist and others conducting research on this subject.  The reason may be that the filmmaker would not have found adequate funding for his film.

Following is a review from the Locarno Film Festival.
